Jem Hopkins writes screenplays, TV series, original music, and novels. She likes to create stories which inspire not just feeling, but thinking ‒ softened with a splash of humor. She places her characters in ordinary and otherworldly situations which prompt them to consciously examine who they’ve been, are, and want to be in their worlds – and how they can change those worlds for the better.
She refers to her writing as:
Evolutionary Fiction
Jem has also been a core member of Illumine Films, an indie production company based in Brooklyn, NY, where she participated in all aspects of production from concept to post to see a story through, including writing, composing, script editing, and producing. With writer/director Sergio Caballero, she co-wrote a feature script for the film, which won an honorable mention in the 2018 Los Angeles Screenplay Contest.
Jem holds a masters degree in engineering with a minor focus in computer science/artificial intelligence, and has worked as an engineer, college instructor, and as creative director for a graphic design/creative services firm.
